UBCP/ACTRA names Linda Darlow as the International Women’s Day honouree

The UBCP/ACTRA Women’s Committee names Linda Darlow as the International Women’s Day honouree, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Union, the industry, and causes of social justice.

A celebration for International Women’s Day honouring Linda Darlow is being held on March 8th at the UBCP/ACTRA office.

Linda Darlow is an actress, teacher, coach and author. She has performed as a principal, supporting and guest star in more than 100 film and television shows and has had recurring roles in numerous television series and has done voice work in animation. Linda’s award nominations include a LEO Award; UBCP/ACTRA Award and a Jessie Award. In 2010,

Linda received the UBCP/ACTRA Sam Payne Award for humanity, integrity and the encouragement of new talent.

“#PressforProgress is the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day. Global activism for gender equality is at an all time high, fueled by #MeToo, #TimesUp and #PostMeToo, so pressing for progress is more important than ever. Women continue to be under-represented in screen-based media, and some reports indicate that gender pay parity is 200 years away. How wonderful it is, then to pause and celebrate Linda Darlow, a staunch UBCP/ACTRA member who has stood as a beacon of inclusivity, honour and decency in her practice as an actor and educator.  The admiration of her community in this year of erupting change makes her the perfect 2018 International Women’s Day Honouree” said UBCP/ACTRA Women’s Committee Chair Christine Willes.

The UBCP/ACTRA Women’s Committee encourages everyone to participate in International Women’s Day events this year.

The Union of British Columbia Performers (UBCP/ACTRA) is an autonomous branch of ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists), the national organization of professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. ACTRA represents the interests of 23,000 members across Canada – the foundation of Canada’s highly acclaimed professional performing community.
