Many are wondering how BCMPA negotiations are going since the Special Membership meeting held in late November of last year. At that Meeting, it was made quite clear that UBCP Members would not accept any rollbacks to wages and fringe benefits. The Negotiating Producers, through the AMPTP, were informed shortly afterwards that the Bargaining Committee had consulted with the Membership and that UBCP is ready to proceed with further bargaining, with an understood mandate. At that time, the AMPTP was involved in other negotiations and they have now just responded. The AMPTP was informed of the Members’ negative response to the proposed rollbacks and concessions (which they are calling “incentives”). The AMPTP’s response was to re-iterate their mandate to negotiate some sort of concessionary package.

As yet, no dates are set to resume negotiations, so at this time, it is “hurry up and wait.”
