A large production company recently fell several months behind in payment to performers. Because no member came forward in a timely way, UBCP was not able to substantiate the non-payment until the total outstanding reached more than $250,000. Once UBCP received confirmation of the non-payment, UBCP took prompt action and successfully pressured the production company to pay the outstanding amounts to performers, all without the need to resort to filing grievances or taking other legal action. While this story has a happy ending, members are reminded that if they are slow to report non-payment, they run the risk of never receiving payment. Please inform UBCP promptly should you not receive a cheque on time.
